The Arab Initiative for Freedom for Leader Abdullah Öcalan organized a seminar on Zoom, titled “Peace and Democratic Society.”
Academics and intellectuals from Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, and Tunisia discussed Abdullah Öcalan’s ideas and the democratic nation project.
The seminar, moderated by Dr. Taha Ali Ehmed, was attended by Tunisian researcher and lawyer Lubna Bin Ebdullah, former Egyptian ambassador Sherif Shahin, social sciences expert Dr. Hüsni Ehmed Mistefa, Lebanese professor of international relations Dr. Raid El Mısri, Emine Osê, Arab Initiative Coordinator Ilham El Milêci, and Kurdish activist Nibad Xalid.
Emphasizing that the democratic nation is an alternative to the unitary state system, participants stated that the democratic nation approach, strengthening the role of women, and transitioning from armed conflict to democratic politics would be decisive in resolving the Kurdish question.
The participants also discussed establishing trust among peoples, creating a culture of coexistence, and the role of women in peace politics. They stressed that the Kurdish and Arab peoples cannot live apart from each other, calling for a review of nation-state laws and the development of a new social approach based on reciprocity and forgiveness.
