33rd International Kurdish Culture Festival to take place in Dortmund on September 13

The 33rd International Kurdish Culture Festival will be held in Dortmund, Germany, on September 13. Kurds living in Europe will bring their culture and art together with resistance at the festival. The event will take place at Remydamm/Victor-Toyka Str. 44139 Dortmund.

Cultural and artistic events

Artists to perform at the festival include rapper Azad, Ruken Yılmaz, Nasır, Dilniya Rezazî, Zelemele, Ferhad Merdê, Hussein Shaqooli, Ferzad Mehdi Nia, Hunera Mizgîn, and DJ Mustafa Demir.

The event will also feature a felt tent called Konê Amele, govend (Kurdish dance) performances from different regions of Kurdistan, a performance by Koma Erbanê, and Zarok Ma workshops and games for children.

Participation and transportation

The Confederation of Kurdish Communities in Germany, KON-MED, announced that hundreds of vehicles from 119 different locations in Germany, Northern France, Belgium, Switzerland, and the Netherlands will transport participants to the festival.

Around 400 volunteers will ensure the safety of the area. Participants are advised to come in traditional clothing, bring their family and friends, and share posters.

The festival’s message

The festival is seen not only as a showcase of the diversity of Kurdish culture, but also as an expression of resistance against oppression and the right to self-determination. KON-MED states that cultural expressions are also a form of political resistance against the oppressive, brutal, and assimilation policies of the occupying states in Kurdistan.
