In a statement on the International Day of Peace on September 1, the Bakur Kurdish Women’s Union Platform emphasized that living freely with one’s identity, language, and culture is a fundamental human right.
The statement on Monday pointed out that women having a voice and power in all areas of social life is an indispensable condition for peace, and said:
“We Kurdish women know from our history of struggle that there can be no peace without justice. Therefore, we appeal to all women: let us unite against all forms of oppression, discrimination, and violence. Our unity is our strength.”
The platform stated that Abdullah Öcalan’s “Call for Peace and Democratic Society” would open the door to a free and peaceful world for all peoples, and called on the government to take concrete steps towards lasting peace.
“Every woman’s heart beats with hope and pride for peace,” said the platform, remarking that September 1 should mark a new beginning in the struggle for equality and freedom against war, hatred, and discrimination.
