Hesekê: major operation against ISIS cells, dozens arrested

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Internal Security Units launched a large-scale operation at dawn in Hesekê, Cizîrê Canton, targeting clandestine cells of the so-called Islamic State.

According to local sources, the raids focused particularly on groups preparing an attack against Sinaa Prison. The cells were also reportedly involved in human trafficking and activities aimed at destabilizing the city.

Joint forces carried out simultaneous operations across several neighborhoods, resulting in dozens of arrests. The security sweep, aimed at restoring stability and public safety, is still ongoing.

Statement by the SDF

The SDF released a preliminary statement saying that “in line with our national responsibility to safeguard the security of our people and preserve stability, the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Internal Security Forces of Northern and Eastern Syria, and the Women’s Protection Units, announce the launch of a large-scale security sweep targeting the hideouts and cells of the ISIS terrorist organization in the city of Hesekê and its surrounding areas.”

The statement added: “The objectives of this campaign are to pursue the remnants of ISIS and its sleeper and active cells that endanger civilian lives; dismantle logistical support networks; and prevent potential plans by the terrorist organization to attack prisons and detention facilities.
Military operations teams (TOL) are participating in this campaign, providing intelligence support to ensure precision in targeting terrorist cells and safeguarding civilians.”

The statement continued: “As we reaffirm our determination to uproot ISIS terrorism, we call on our people in the city of Hesekê to fully cooperate with our forces and report any suspicious activity. We emphasize that their safety and security remain our highest priority.
