Öcalan: Democratic society, peace, and integration are the three key concepts of the process

The Imrali Delegation met with Abdullah Öcalan on Thursday for three hours. The delegation issued a statement saying that Öcalan emphasized that “democratic society, peace, and integration are the three key concepts of this process.”

The delegation’s statement reads as follows:

“To the Press and Public

On 28 August 2025, we held a three-hour meeting with Mr. Öcalan on Imrali Island. Mr. Öcalan was in very good health and in high spirits.

During the meeting, he made a comprehensive assessment of the stages the Peace and Democratic Society Process has gone through and the current point reached. He said that the problem we face has become gangrenous, and requires special surgical intervention. He added that the process was carried forward with this sensitivity. ‘Our goal,’ he said, ‘was to do everything possible to end a painful process.’

He emphasized that democratic society, peace, and integration are the three key concepts of this process, and that only on this basis can a result be achieved. He underlined the necessity of entering a new stage where steps are urgently taken in all dimensions.

Mr. Öcalan said that his preference has always been for integration based on a democratic republic and democratic society; understanding and embracing this strategic move would be a gain for all of us and for all of Turkey.

He also pointed out that approaches in some political and media circles that either oversimplify or ignore this preference are clearly damaging to the process.

On this occasion, he once again expressed his strong belief in eternal friendship and peace between peoples.

With our greetings and respect,
DEM Party Imrali Delegation”
