KCDK-E statement on the attack against Tishrin Dam

In its statement, the European Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress (KCDK-E) said the attack targeted not only the people of Rojava but also the hope for peace and coexistence of all communities in the region.

Emphasizing that the Tishrin Dam is vital infrastructure providing water, energy, and agricultural irrigation to a wide area of Syria, the statement declared: “This attack constitutes a grave crime against humanity under international law.”

KCDK-E underlined that existing problems must be resolved not through military methods but through diplomacy, dialogue, and democratic solution mechanisms, recalling that Abdullah Öcalan’s “Democratic Nation” paradigm offers a fundamental solution for regional peace.

The statement stressed that Turkey’s military offensives carried out under the name of the Syrian National Army (SNA) are alarming from a human rights perspective and issued a call to Kurds in Europe and the democratic public:

“As Kurds living in Europe, we believe we must not remain silent in the face of these attacks. Within the framework of international law and humanitarian values, defending peace, democracy, and the will of peoples to live together is the responsibility of us all. In this regard, we call on European public opinion to protect the safety of civilians, remove obstacles to humanitarian aid, and support peace efforts in the region.

As KCDK-E, we call on all Kurds living in Europe, our friends, democratic institutions, and organizations to revive the spirit of common resistance that emerged in Kobanê, to stand for the Tishrin Dam and for Rojava, and to join in solidarity and common struggle within the framework of peaceful and democratic actions.”
