Beyoğlu mayor Inan Güney and 16 other people, who were taken into custody as part of the investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), have been formally arrested.
According to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, 17 people, including mayor Güney, were arrested on charges of “membership in an organization established to commit crimes” and “fraud against public institutions and organizations.”
Those arrested also include Güney’s chief of staff Seyhan Özcan, his brother-in-law Ismail Akkaya, his driver Deniz Göleli, Istanbul Mayor Imamoğlu’s driver Recep Cebeci, along with Ibrahim Can Yaman and Mahir Gün.
Meanwhile, 27 other perople were released under judicial control measures, including ban on traveling abroad.
