Racist attack on a family speaking Kurdish in Mersin leaves one seriously injured

A group of Turkish racists targeted a Kurdish family in the village of Kisecik, located in the Çamlıyayla district of Mersin, on Sunday afternoon.

The racist group, including the headman of Kisecik, stopped the family at the entrance to the village.

The Kurdish citizens were first verbally abused, then attacked and told, “This is the Republic of Turkey, how dare you speak Kurdish?”

Adnan Nazlı, a member of the family that included women and a 3-month-old baby, was seriously injured as a result of the blows he received and was admitted to intensive care at Mersin City Hospital. The other family members received outpatient treatment.

Following the family’s complaint, those involved in the attack were taken into custody and taken to the Tarsus District Police Department. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
