The Mezopotamya Democratic Culture and Arts Movement (TEV-ÇAND) and the Shano ya Çiya (Mountain Theater) organized the celebration within the framework of the “Summer Activities for Children” program they launched on 1 June. The event took place at the Baqî Xido Şêxo Culture and Arts Center in the city of Kobanê, in the Euphrates Canton. The program has been sponsored by Durango Municipality in the Basque Country and the Italian NGO Fonti di Pace.
The celebration began with a reading of a poem written by Leader Abdullah Öcalan addressed to children.
This was followed by speeches from music teacher Ferhad Elûş, “Summer Activities for Children” coordinator Simko Cûdî, and Baqî Xido Culture and Arts Center Co-chair Evîn Berewad.
The speeches emphasized the importance of children’s education and learning.
During the celebration, songs and poems were performed, a theater play was staged, and children participated in traditional halay dances.
