Armed attack on police station in Iran leaves one dead and one injured

According to Iranian media, there was an armed attack this morning in the southeastern Iranian city of Saravanhe. One police officer was killed and one wounded in the attack. Three attackers were killed by security forces. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the action.

In July, an attack on the courthouse in the city of Zahedan, Iran, left six people dead and 22 injured. Responsibility for that attack was claimed by the armed group Jaish al-Adl, which operates in Sistan and Baluchestan province and describes itself as a “defender of Sunni rights.”

Jaish al-Adl is known as the successor to Jundallah, a group previously linked to numerous attacks and bombings. The group primarily operates in the Sistan and Baluchestan region.
