The Co-Presidency of the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Executive Council released a statement on the 13th anniversary of the Rojava Revolution, calling it “the most accurate and realistic solution model for Syria as a whole with its system of the Democratic Nation and the paradigm of Women’s Freedom”.
The KCK statement on Saturday reads as follows:
“Thirteen years have passed since July 19 that marked the beginning of the Revolution in Rojava, one of the most important developments in history. We congratulate the peoples of Rojava, and North and East Syria, as well as all the peoples of Kurdistan and Syria, the Arab, Armenian, Druze, Turkmen, Syriac, and Alevi peoples, the peoples of the Middle East and the world, particularly the women, youth, and all socialist, revolutionary, democratic, and liberationist forces on the occasion of their historic revolution on its 13th anniversary. We also celebrate the internationalist comrades who played a major role in the development and defense of this historic revolution. We salute this historic development, which is a common revolution of the peoples, and once again commemorate all the martyrs of this revolution with respect, love, and gratitude.
The Revolution of Rojava has brought new achievements and values to our human history. Above all, it has enabled society, which had been weakened, disempowered, and left defenseless by the dominant nation-state system, to rediscover its own willpower. It has paved the way for the fundamental dynamics of society, which had been deprived of its democratic rights, oppressed, and exploited to organize, become conscious, and gain the will and strength to govern itself. The revolution has removed the obstacle between the differences in language, religion, beliefs, and ethnicity among peoples. It has set an end to the causes of conflict between peoples and paved the way for the differences to be seen as the richness of society. It has provided an environment for peoples, beliefs, and cultures to live together in siblinghood within this democratic framework. It has enabled women, who had been pushed to the deepest and darkest corners of social life, to become conscious, to organize and rise up, and to take the lead in both defending and building democratic social transformation and revolution. It has created the conditions for the emergence of a conscious and organized generation of youth.
In short, the Rojava Revolution has been an important solution with its system of the Democratic Nation and the paradigm of Women’s Freedom. It has proven itself in many ways over the past 13 years of practice. On the one hand, the peoples and revolutionary forces joined hands to put up a great resistance against the attacks from outside aimed at eliminating the revolution, and the revolution was successfully defended. On the other hand, the development of the democratic, freedom-oriented, communal system continued. In this sense, the Revolution of July 19 successfully crossed an important historical threshold.
The Revolution of July 19, which has been put into practice in Rojava and North and East Syria, also stands as the most accurate and realistic solution model for Syria as a whole. The current conflict in Syria clearly reveals this reality. The solution to Syria’s problems and the establishment of unity can only be achieved through the principles of the Revolution of July 19: Democratic Nation, Democratic Self-Administration, and Women’s Freedom. Sectarian and nationalist impositions will only deepen the conflict and massacres, and they are the greatest threat to Syria’s integrity.
Once again, we celebrate the historic Revolution of July 19 with all peoples. We believe that the democratic alliance, organization, and struggle that peoples will develop along the lines of the revolution will bring about the long-awaited peace, democratic life, and freedom in the Middle East.”
