Sırrı Süreyya Önder: We will convey the results of meetings in South Kurdistan to Mr. Öcalan

Sırrı Süreyya Önder, a member of the DEM Party’s Imrali Delegation, said that they would convey the messages received from party leaders to Abdullah Öcalan. 

The DEM Party’s Imrali Delegation concluded its meetings in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (South Kurdistan), which had been ongoing since 16 February. 

In addition to the Imrali Delegation members Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder, the group who went to South Kurdistan included Democratic Regions Party (DBP) co-chair Keskin Bayındır, Foreign Relations Commission co-spokesperson Berdan Öztürk, MPs Gülcan Kaçmaz Sayyiğit and Mehmet Kamaç, as well as lawyers from the Asrın Law Office, Ibrahim Bilmez and Özgür Erol. 

The delegation met with KDP President Mesut Barzani, Kurdistan Regional Government President Nechirvan Barzani, PUK Leader Bafel Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government Qubad Talabani, PUK Presidential Council member Shehnaz Ibrahim Ahmed, and Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. 

Sırrı Süreyya Önder spoke to the Mezopotamya Agency (MA) about the meetings, and said that they took place in a positive atmosphere.

Önder said: “We were warmly received by all the political figures, institutions, and parties we met. First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to them. We listened to their suggestions, warnings, and support regarding the process. These are very valuable for us and for peace. We will convey these to Mr. Öcalan and our counterparts.”

Addressing the topics discussed during the meetings, Önder said: “We shared the assessments made by Mr. Öcalan. We reported the questions he asked and sought to provide answers to them. Additionally, the issue of national unity was among the topics discussed. We aimed to establish the broadest possible societal ground for peace.”

“We will deliver the details to Öcalan” 

Önder said that they received full support for the new process, adding: “All those we met placed great importance on this new process, and highly valued the messages and the forthcoming call by Mr. Öcalan. This, frankly, both honored and encouraged us.”

Önder also mentioned that the party leaders they met had messages for Abdullah Öcalan, saying: “All those we met expressed their support, and had messages that we will deliver to Mr. Öcalan on our next visit.”
