HPG and YJA Star attack Turkish military barracks in Derecik

The Turkish military barracks in Derecik (Rûbarok) near Şemdinli (Şemzînan) have been attacked by Kurdish guerrillas.

According to the press office of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG), the Turkish border troops post in the province of Hakkari (Colemêrg) was targeted a total of four times on Tuesday by the Şehîd Delal air defense unit. Two of the attacks hit the barracks directly, while the helicopter runway and a guard post were targeted once each. According to reports, so-called kamikaze drones were used.

The HPG said the actions were in “retaliation” for a Turkish drone attack in Ranya, southern Kurdistan, at the end of January, in which four people were killed. Among the victims was the journalist Aziz Köylüoğlu.

The HPG also commented on guerrilla actions that have taken place against occupation troops in South Kurdistan in recent days. According to the report, the Free Women’s Units (YJA Star) stopped several advances of the Turkish army on the Girê Bahar resistance area, which lies on the western Zap front, both yesterday and on Monday. Two days ago, Turkish soldiers were fired upon in Xakurke while moving into Sinînê in the area surrounding Girê Şehîd Hêmin.

Attacks by the Turkish army

The HPG spoke about the attacks by the Turkish army, and said that its tunnel systems at Girê Amêdî were bombed with banned explosives on Wednesday. Further attacks on guerrilla areas were reportedly carried out from the air.

According to its own information, the HPG recorded at least 25 attacks by fighter aircraft in various areas of Southern Kurdistan between 8 and 12 February, including Xakurke, Qendîl, Metîna and Zap. Most of the bombings, 13 in total, were aimed at targets in the Gare region.
