‘Isolation must end for an honourable peace and a solution to the Kurdish question’
The Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) held the Aegean Region section of its organisation meetings. Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Deputy Co-Chair Sultan Özcan, DEM Party MPs, DEM Party Aegean Region provincial and district executives and party members attended the meeting held in Bayraklı district of İzmir.
Speaking here, Hatimoğulları drew attention to the increasing tension in the Middle East and noted that a possible Israeli-Iranian war would bring about a catastrophe. She stated that the developments in Rojava should especially be evaluated. Emphasising that politics has changed, Hatimoğulları said, “Turkey is making politics between contradictions and cracks, but Turkey’s politics so far is neither diplomatic nor based on a peaceful dialogue. We have been expressing for years that Turkey’s politics will entangle Turkey and we are now seeing a very clear form of this entanglement.”
Underlining that they insist on honorable peace, Tülay Hatimoğulları said that the struggle for peace should be increased. She continued: “We know that in this period, especially when you switch on the TV channels, there are conversations about Mr Öcalan and these new developments are being discussed. This means that society in Turkey has now opened up its perceptions of talking about the Kurdish issue. We have seen that a much wider section of Turkey’s society is now evaluating this issue, and that this matter has once again become an agenda item in Turkey.”
Pointing to Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan as the interlocutor for a solution, Hatimoğulları said: “We believe that lifting the isolation in İmralı, Mr Öcalan’s coming out and speaking about both the Kurdish question in Turkey and the developments in the region will make a great contribution not only to Turkey and the Kurds but also to the peoples of the region. We also believe that it will provide a strong service to peace in the region. For this reason, we say that the Imrali isolation should be lifted and Mr Abdullah Öcalan should speak.”
