Sources claim new invasion of South Kurdistan to begin on 15 April

For a while now, the media in South Kurdistan as well as sources in the region have been reporting about an imminent new invasion by the Turkish army with the active participation of the KDP. The Committee for Foreign Affairs of the KCK (Community of Kurdistan Societies) said on Saturday that the information they have points to planned provocative actions by the KDP.

A source from the region has confirmed to ANF that there is a joint plan between the KDP leadership and the Turkish state. Our source comes from the KDP structure. According to him, the occupation attack by the Turkish army on HPG guerrilla locations in the Kanîmasî area in the Dihok governorate is scheduled to start on 15 April 2022.

Preparations are said to have been made to enter the area controlled by the guerrillas for three days. Our source said: “There will be an explosion that will kill three senior military officials. One of them will be an officer from the department in charge of the fight with PKK, another one will be in charge of the Zêrevanî unit.”

The Zêrevanî are a special unit of the Barzani clan outside of the regular peshmerga. According to our source, a 15-strong team from the Zêrevanî and the Turkish-trained KDP mercenary unit Roj-Peshmerga have been stationed at the Binesalaw base. “At the same location, a troop is responsible for GPS, another group is under the responsibility of the Turkish military intelligence. The first troop moves in civilian clothes.”

The commander of the operational unit is said to be Lorkan Mutah, who comes from Mosul. Our source speaks of a phased plan to prepare the ground for the planned attack:

1. Murder of some KDP peshmergas

2. Blasting of a pipeline from South Kurdistan to Turkey

3. A car explodes in an area occupied by civilians

The aim is to legitimize the invasion to the people and to present it as justified.

According to the same source, the Turkish made the following preparations for the attack:

1. Control of the war zone and the surrounding area from the air

2. Provision of explosives and various weapons for the KDP

3. Support of ground forces with tanks and armoured vehicles

4. Establishment of a joint KDP-Turkish army operations center in the immediate vicinity of the war zone to transmit information to both the air and ground forces

According to this source, along with the Zêrevanî, two units of the Gulan Special Operations Forces are also stationed at the border. The Gulan are subordinate to Mesud Barzani’s son Mensur Barzani. The Zêrevanî commander Aziz Veysi held a meeting with other responsible persons, and the order was given to create a map via GPS in order to determine the targets of the upcoming operation.

The source also states that the first stage of the joint plan by the KDP and the Turkish army is to block the main road in Kanîmasî in order to limit the guerrillas’ radius of movement and prevent external contacts. After that, all the mountains in Metîna are to be conquered.
