Newroz celebrated in Vienna

The Newroz celebration organized by the Austrian Federation of Kurdish Associations (FEYKOM) was held on Saturday.

At the beginning of the celebration, a minute’s silence was held in memory of those who fell in the Kurdistan freedom struggle.

The history of Newroz was then explained. After celebrating Newroz, Kurdish politician Cuma Tak drew attention to the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Tak said that “the people of Kurdistan cannot be free until Abdullah Öcalan attains his physical freedom” and called on the struggle to grow.

Austrian National Council member, Dr. Harald Troch, Green Party Council member Niki Kunrat, and Ahmet Zirek on behalf of the Austrian Democratic Force Union also attended the celebration.

Thousands of people chanted slogans for Abdullah Öcalan and Kurdish national unity.

During the celebration, the video message sent by KCK Executive Council co-chair Cemil Bayık was screened.

At the event, Koma Rojava, Beser Şahin, Ayşe Şevaqî, Şeyda Perinçek, Theater Potamiya and Koma Rojava children’s folklore group took the stage.
