Newroz celebration in Liverpool

Thousands of people from all four parts of Kurdistan attended the Newroz celebration held at Liverpool Olympia Hall in Liverpool, England under the lead of the Kurdish People’s Assembly.

Portraits of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and Mazlum Doğan were displayed on the event stage, as well as PKK, YPG, YPJ, Kurdistan flags.

The Newroz event started with a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs of the revolution and slogans such as ” Şehîd namirin”, “Biji Serok Apo”, “PKK is the people, the people are here”, “Biji Newroz” and “Murderer Erdogan” were frequently chanted.

“The freedom of Öcalan is the expression of freedom, democracy and equality for the Kurdish and Middle Eastern peoples,” Britain Kurdish People’s Assembly Co-Chair Miraz Serhat said during his opening speech.

Kurdish politician Osman Baydemir and PYD Foreign Relations Committee Spokesperson Salih Muslim also made speeches via Skype during the event. Speakers emphasized that Öcalan’s freedom is fundamental to peace and the national unity of the Kurds should be secured.

Artists Hozan Cane, Hasan Darzi, Ako Ranyayi, Peyman Kobanê and Serhado appeared on stage.
