Russia and Ukraine to begin fourth round of talks amid ongoing conflict

The Russia-Ukraine conflict which started on February 24 continues with negotiations taking place along the way. At least one person was killed and 12 more injured following a Russian shelling of a civilian settlement in Kyiv, according to Ukraine’s emergency services. As fierce fighting is taking place around the capital Kyiv, Russian forces are reinforcing the siege around the city.

In the meantime, Ukrainian forces shelled the Russian-backed Donetsk forces. At least 20 people are reported to have been killed and 9 others injured in the attack.

On Sunday, Russia bombed a military base in Lviv, on the border with Poland, where at least 35 were killed, including foreign troops.

BALANCE SHEET OF WAR

According to the United Nations, almost 2.7 million Ukrainians have left the country since the beginning of the war.

On Saturday, Kyiv authorities announced that about 1300 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed since the beginning of the clashes. On March 2, Moscow reported that 498 Russian soldiers had been killed so far. The Pentagon estimates that Russia suffered between 2,000 and 4,000 casualties in the 14-day war.

At least 596 civilians have been killed, according to the UN. However, the actual death toll is estimated to be higher.

NEW NEGOTIATIONS

As the war continues, new negotiations are expected to take place this Monday. Kyiv announced that it would demand an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian forces during the next round of talks.
