Kevana Zêrîn conference: “We will make cultural revolution”

The Kurdish women’s cultural movement Kevana Zerin (Golden Crescent) held its second conference in Medya Defence Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). The participants said that the conference was held with great enthusiasm, stressing that they would increase their resistance in the field of art and culture.

Jînda Efrîn: We congratulate Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, revolutionary mothers and all women artists on the occasion of this conference. We held our conference under the motto that we will make a cultural revolution through the revolutionary people’s war. We held our first conference in 2016. Our aim is to revive our culture. We focused on the question of how we can protect our culture more under war conditions. The enemy wants to subject peoples to a cultural genocide as well. The 3rd World War is already being waged on this basis. We want to carry out a cultural revolution against these attacks. We must prevent the cultural degeneration caused by World War III. As the women of the Middle East, we must come together under the guidance of the Kevana Zêrîn in order to revive the culture of the Taurus and Zagros mountains once again.

Pelşîn Munzur: The second conference created a more enthusiastic spirit of struggle and resistance for us. At the conference, the situation in Kurdistan was discussed in detail and important analyses and evaluations were put forwards. The enemy is attacking the art and culture of the Kurdish people in Kurdistan more than ever. Koma Amara’s goal is to bring forward a scientific response to the attacks on occupied Kurdistan and its culture, to create works based on revolutionary art and culture as women. We call on all women from Kurdistan to take an attitude against the popular culture, arabesque culture, pop and rock music that destroy cultures and focus on revolutionary music. As Koma Amara, we also praise the resistance of our comrades who fought off the Turkish army in Zap, Metîna, Avaşîn and other areas. We will also increase our resistance in the field of art and culture.

WE SHOULD DEVELOP OUR WRITTEN LITERATURE

Sarya Karakoçan: We held a very important conference. Detailed evaluations on culture and art were also made during the conference. I believe that the decisions taken at the conference will be implemented, leading to achievements.

Arîn Serhad: There was great enthusiasm among all the participants in our second conference. It was very important to hold our conference at a time when there are myriad attacks against women. Capitalist modernity has given rise to a cultural genocide. Pro-freedom and revolutionary women held a conference against this cultural genocide.

During the second conference, we realized that there had been several changes and transformations. Moreover, we have seen how sacred and important cultural and artistic works are to promote freedom.

Gulistan Afrin: As a member of the Tevgera Kevana Zêrîn, I also attended the second conference. Our aim is to develop a common art using the voices and words of women together with the Arab, Syriac, Circassian and Turkmen women.

Sema Kobanê: Important results have emerged following our conference. Kevana Zêrîn was founded not only for Kurdish women, but for all women. Therefore, we held our second conference to further our activities.

Nêrgîz Qamişlo: First, I consider myself very lucky to have attended this conference. Many important issues concerning culture, art and literature were evaluated. Culture, art and literature chime in with each other. The Kurdistan literature has reached the present day orally. However, we also need to develop the written literature. Women can be involved in genuine culture and art only by themselves. This issue was very important. Women should maintain their culture with theatre, poetry, cinema and believe in themselves.
