Ukraine war: No results from the meeting in Turkey

Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, and Dmitro Kuleba, Ukrainian Foreign Minister, met in Turkey on Thursday.

“We addressed the ceasefire, but no progress was made,” Kuleba said in a statement following the meeting.

“Ukraine will not surrender,” Kuleba said, adding, “We are open to diplomacy, but if that does not happen, we will protect our country and our people.”

“We hoped to establish a 24-hour ceasefire,” Kuleba explained. Lavrov stated that Moscow is interested in discussing humanitarian corridors.

“I came here largely for humanitarian reasons, to evacuate civilians. However, Lavrov did not want to make any promises at this time,” claimed the Ukrainian Minister. 

Russia’s Foreign Minister, on the other hand, called the Western weaponry supplies “dangerous,” adding, “Those who load Ukraine with weapons will bear responsibility for their actions.”

Stating that they want to continue the negotiations with Ukraine within the framework existing in Belarus, Lavrov said, “Today’s meeting confirms that there is no other option in Belarus to the Russian-Ukrainian format.”
