Margaret Owen demands freedom for Abdullah Öcalan
Human rights defender Margaret Owen, 88, who has been in solidarity with the Kurdish people’s struggle for many years, shared a message on her Twitter account demanding freedom of Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Owen posted a photograph of herself taken in front of a banner demanding freedom for Abdullah Öcalan and wrote:
“#Ocalan must be free. 23 years in solitary confinement on Imrali. He is the Kurdish ‘Mandela’, the key to peace in the Middle East. His prison writings describe a new world order for equality , justice, women’s empowerment.”
Owen, who is also a member of the Peace in Kurdistan Campaign, in another post in November 2021, requested that the PKK be removed from the list of terrorist organizations. She posted a photo she took with YPG and YPJ members to the prosecutor’s office demanding to be arrested.
Owen had called on the British government to “Stop the dirty work you are doing here with the Turkish state”.
