YJŞ: Women will be freed through resistance

The Shengal Women’s Units‎ (YJŞ) released a written statement to mark March 8, International Working Women’s Day.

“For us, March 8 is the celebration of women’s labour. It represents the insistence on the freedom struggle against injustice and genocide. March 8 is the revolt of women against the power of men and represents the culture of resistance,” the statement said.

The YJŞ remarked that resistance in Shengal was carried out over the legacy of March 8, and commemorated the women of the resistance, Bêrîvan, Binefş, Arîn, Nazê and Şîlan.

“Days are wrapped with the colour of women, and women are leading the way in each single moment. The nature of women has been enlightened more than ever. Most importantly, the motto ‘Jin, jiyan, azadi’ (woman, life, freedom) has become the slogan of the 21st century. We state that women will be freed through resistance.”
