KNK co-chair Zeyneb Murad says that Shengal wounds are a national wound

Zeyneb Murad said that one of the demands of the people of Shengal is the establishment of national unity, “Because national unity can only be a solution to Shengal’s problem. Because the Shengal issue is a national issue. The national unity of the Kurdish people will provide a solution to this problem.”

Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) co-chair Zeyneb Mûrad, KNK members former Kurdistan Region Deputy Şêrko Heme Emin, activist Hamid Latif, journalist Şoreş Xidir, Zoroastrian representative Faîze Firad, Journalist Fîyad Hîdanî, Researcher Çeto Hewleri and journalist Latif Fatih visited Shengal.

Murad spoke to ANF and said that they visited Shengal together with the KNK members in South Kurdistan to support the Yazidi people. She said that they wanted to closely follow the situation in Shengal, especially after the attacks by the Turkish state.

Noting that the Shengal agreement, which was also signed by the Iraqi government and the KDP, harmed the Yazidi people, Murad said: “Shengal is a deep wound. Mass graves were opened even the day we visited. This wound is getting deeper day by day. A solution must be found. We wanted to follow this situation closely. Despite everything, our people are resisting. Our Yazidi people want to build a new life, but unfortunately, Shengal is attacked by the Turkish state on the one hand and the Iraqi state on the other. Although Shengal is a part of Iraqi territory, the Turkish state bombs Shengal every day, killing our people.”

National unity is the solution

Zeyneb Murad said that as KNK, they have many projects for the Yazidi people.

“The Yazidi society wants everyone to support Shengal. The wound of Shengal is a national wound. It is the wound of our entire people. Everyone should feel this wound. We must prevent the Turkish state’s attacks on Shengal. National unity could be the solution to Shengal’s problem. Because the Shengal issue is a national issue.”
