Kurdish community in Switzerland to reorganise itself
The Democratic Kurdish Community in Switzerland (CDK-S) has taken a series of decisions to reorganise itself at a conference in Basel. Eleven local people’s councils and ten other Kurdish initiatives in Switzerland are united in the umbrella organisation.
At the conference at the Kurdish Community Centre in Basel, political developments in Kurdistan, the Middle East and Europe were discussed and the work in Switzerland over the past year was evaluated. The conference began with a minute’s silence in memory of those who died in the Kurdish liberation struggle. In the discussion that followed, suggestions were made for improving their own work. Among other things, it was decided that the council structures within the federation must be reorganised in order to make the essential contents visible and to implement principles such as grassroots democracy and gender justice.
According to the CDK-S, Kurdish courses are to be offered in all social centres in the future. The association is setting up a legal committee and economic communes are to be formed at the local level. In addition, public relations work is to be improved, each local people’s council is to do its own press work and establish a committee for appearances in digital networks.
In the coming months, the affiliates will hold local congresses in order to present the results at the CDK-S congress in May.
