13 prisoners on hunger strike in Tekirdağ Prison

The number of prisoners who went on hunger strike in Tekirdağ No. 2 F Type Closed Prison increased to 13.

After the murder of prisoner Vedat Erkmen on 19 December 2021, 5 prisoners went on hunger strike on 17 January due to the lack of safety and demanding an end to the violations of rights. While 11 of the 13 prisoners went on an indefinite and irreversible hunger strike, 2 prisoners went on a 10-day hunger strike.

The protests of Ahmet Arif Yoyer, Habip Güler, Tufan İlbaş, Hüseyin Karadaş and Süleyman Ucakan, who started an indefinite non-alternating hunger strike on 17 January, entered its 42nd day.

Şahabettin Öğüt, İlyas Yorğun and Ahmet Altay, who joined the indefinite non-alternating hunger strike on 1 February, have been on hunger strike for 27 days.

Ahmet Osman, who was on an indefinite non-alternating hunger strike on February 16, entered the 12th day of Kutbettin Onur and Yunus Konak.

The prisoners, who launched the hunger strike after Erkmen’s murder, saying that they feared for their lives, demand that their personal belongings, radio, notebook, books and newspapers not be confiscated, and that arbitrary cell searches be stopped.

The prisoners also asked to put an end to strip searching and arbitrary moving of cells.
