Women in Çatak protest sexual assault against 3 children by village guards in one year
Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA), Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Van Women’s Assembly and STAR Women’s Association made a statement regarding the sexual assault of 3 children by village guards in one year in Çatak, in the province of Van. In addition to HDP Van MP Muazzez Orhan, women from the village also participated in the statement coming together in the village of Konalga.
‘Sexual assault as special war policy’
HDP Van MP Muazzez Orhan said that the government wants to implement special war policies in Kurdistan and added that they would not allow this. “The main reason for the increase in these sexual assaults is the policy of the government against the Kurdish people. These special war policies are carried out through children and women’s bodies with the help of uniforms. We will not remain silent about the women’s policies of the government. We will be the voice of women and children.”
Orhan said: “We will uncover the perpetrators under all circumstances, and we will follow up so that the perpetrators are prosecuted and given the necessary punishment.”
