Izmir Peace Mothers Assembly visits families carrying out Justice Vigil in the city
The Justice Vigil, initiated by prisoners’ families in Izmir Bar Association to demand the freedom of ill prisoners and of those who see their release arbitrarily postponed despite having served their sentence, continues on its 11th day. Families unfurled banners saying “Freedom for ill prisoners” and “Isolation is a crime against humanity”. The families were visited by the Izmir Peace Mothers Assembly today. Peace Mothers presented daffodils to the mothers at the vigil.
‘We will resist until our prisoners are freed’
Speaking on behalf of the Izmir Peace Mothers Assembly, Behiye Yalçın said that they stand with families who want justice for their children and added: “Their children are our children too. Justice is for everyone. We want justice, too. Ill prisoners should be released and justice should be provided.”
Speaking on behalf of the families, Sultan Yağmekan thanked the Peace Mothers for their visit. Yagmekan said that when they think of their relatives in prisons, they cannot sleep or eat. “They will not stop being Kurdish and defend our identity. We will resist persecution to the end. We, as their families, will fight and resist outside until justice is provided.”
Yağmekan called for all mothers to take part in the Justice Vigil.
