People of South Kurdistan protest because their oil is sold to Turkey
KDP politicians, who have met with Turkish officials in the past few days, are selling the oil of the Bashur people to the Turkish state. At a time when people lived in poverty and misery, the KDP’s oil agreement, reached without the knowledge of the parliament, caused public reaction.
Tehsin Omer, who lives in Hewler, said that the political and economic crisis affected the market the most.
Emphasizing that everything has increased due to the rise of the dollar, Omer said: “It is our request from the government to keep the market under surveillance. Non-payment and delay of wages also affects the market. Paying salaries will change something. Oil, gas and gasoline are very expensive. The government needs to find a solution to this problem. The people are devastated.”
Oil is all over the country but people are starving
Xidir Husên Hemze drew attention to the economic crisis and poverty. He said that there is turmoil in all areas of life, and added that the situation in the market is very bad.
Husên Qadir, who stated that the government leaves the people poor, added: “If you are not ‘collaborative’, they will not let you do anything. They impose too many taxes on people. People see no benefit from the money they earn working. Oil is all over our country, but it is never given to people, and the people are starving.”
