Yazidis in Russia protest the Iraqi repression in Shengal

The Ezdîxan group, which represents the Yazidi minority in Russia, protested the Iraqi government forces’ abusive activities in Shengal.

In a statement on the 23rd anniversary of the international February 15 plot against Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the Ezdîxan group condemned the Iraqi forces threatening the people and not permitting protest actions in Shengal.

The Ezdîxan organization remarked that the attitude of Esîr al-Rebi, the 20th brigade commander of the Iraqi army, that intensified the tension, is not independent of the central Iraqi government and is the outcome of a policy in cooperation with the Turkish state.

“This commander’s threats to assault the Shengal Autonomous Administration and the Shengal people, in an obvious collaboration with the fascist Turkish state, are unacceptable,” the group said.

The Ezdîxan organization stated that the Baghdad government, South Kurdistan’s ruling party KDP, and the Turkish state were “partners” in these attacks and that it was “immoral” that these forces, which left the Yazidi people defenceless when ISIS attacked Shengal in 2014, are now emerging and threatening the forces that are defending Shengal and the people of Shengal.

The organization urged the international community and human rights organizations to respond to such attacks.
