Children of Fire Initiative set fire to warehouse in Istanbul in memory of victims of Cizre
In a written statement, the Children of Fire Initiative said that they targeted a company in Istanbul in order to avenge those who were murdered in the brutal basements in Cizre.
The statement said, “On 7 February 2022, the main warehouse of Hisar Water Company, located in Eyüpsultan, Istanbul, was set on fire for those who were killed in Cizre”
Background
Six years ago, at least 177 people were burnt alive or shot dead in the “death basements of Cizre” by Turkish military forces. According to reports by human rights organisations, at least 288 people were killed in Cizre during the siege of 2015-2016 – 177 of them in the death basements alone. While in some basements those seeking shelter inside were burned to death as the military poured petrol into the basements filled with people, Turkish troops stormed other basements and shot those present dead.
