French Communist Party condemns attacks carried out by Turkey against Kurdistan

The French Communist Party (PCF) issued a written statement about the attacks carried out by the Turkish state against the Kurdish people.

The statement underlined that “President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Turkey continues its criminal attacks against the Kurdish people ruthlessly,” and added that “as the bombardments on Rojava continue on a daily basis, brutal attacks were carried out on Shengal and Maxmur refugee camps in Iraq on 1 February.”

The statement added that “these attacks coincided with the attacks carried out by the Islamic State aimed at freeing the imprisoned jihadists in Hesekê prison. 121 Kurdish civilians and fighters were killed in the operation to secure the prison and recapture the escaped jihadists. The joint attacks show that the collusion between Turkey and the jihadists continues. The leader of ISIS was hiding in the Turkish-controlled province of Idlib.”

The statement continued: “These attacks and the attacks on the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) are the result of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s unwillingness to solve the Kurdish problem.

The French Communist Party (PCF) condemns these new attacks, urging France and the European Union to put pressure on Turkey and to reject this policy and support the peace process promoted by the Kurds.”
