American special forces operation in Idlib kills nine

“At least 9 people, including two children and a woman, were killed in this operation,” Rami Abdul Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told AFP.

According to the Observatory, the soldiers landed by helicopter near the Atme refugee camp in the Idlib region. The Atme camp is located on the border with Turkey.

Abdul Rahman said that this operation is the most important operation of the International Coalition since the one in which ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed in October 2019.

Idlib is under the occupation of the Turkish state and its affiliated mercenaries. The names of those targeted in the operation were not released. The coalition has yet to make any statement.

According to experts, the camps in the Atme region serve as bases for groups such as ISIS and al-Qaeda. The coalition carried out several attacks against the chiefs of al-Qaeda-linked groups in Idlib. In October last year, the US military announced that Abdul Hamid Al Matar, the senior chief of al-Qaeda, was killed as a result of a drone attack.
