Activists from Bern take over Vigil for Öcalan in Strasbourg
The Freedom for Öcalan Initiative launched its Freedom for Öcalan Vigil on 25 June 2012. This is week number 502 of the action in Strasbourg and has been taken over by activists from the Democratic Kurdish Community Center (DKTM) in Bern.
The group includes Nusret Demir, Erkan Serhad and Kerem Özer. Nusret Demir made a statement on behalf of the group and said: “Our leader has been held hostage in Turkey as a result of an international conspiracy. The Kurdish people have been fighting a historical struggle to secure his freedom since 1999.”
He added: “We cannot be liberated until our Leader is liberated.” Demir recalled the many appeals and calls made to European states and said: “Our struggle will continue until the freedom of our Leader is ensured.”
The vigil is held between 7.30 am and 4.30 pm, seven days a week.
