Four Iraqi soldiers killed in ISIS attack

Four soldiers of the Iraqi army were killed last night in an attack by the terrorist militia ISIS on a military checkpoint in Salahaddin. One ISIS militiaman was reportedly killed.

In Iraq, ISIS was declared militarily defeated more than four years ago. However, the jihadists have been active underground all this time and have carried out more deadly attacks in recent months. ISIS is regrouping, especially in the desert and in the regions of the north, whose administrative allocation is disputed between the central government in Baghdad and the Kurdish autonomous government in Hewlêr (Erbil). For about two months, there have been almost daily attacks, mainly against security forces. On 21 January, four Iraqi army bases were attacked by ISIS in Diyala. At least eleven Iraqi soldiers were killed, among them a high-ranking commander.
