Another refugee from Syria murdered in Turkey

The Istanbul office of the Human Rights Association (IHD) reported the racist murder of a Syrian refugee named Naif al-Naif. Accordingly, a group of racists entered his flat in Bayrampaşa and murdered the young man.

The IHD statement said: “The numerous racist attacks in the first ten days of 2022 show what a dangerous point racism has reached. We warn state leaders and call on them to take urgent action to prevent racist attacks. We call on everyone to fight racism, because social awareness in particular is indispensable for the prevention of racism.”

In addition to the systematic racism against Kurds, especially refugees are the target of racist attacks in Turkey. On 23 December, a young man from Aleppo was killed in an attack in Antep.

On 16 November, three sleeping refugees from Syria were set on fire in Izmir and died as a result. Initially, the investigating authorities claimed that the men had set themselves on fire. When the perpetrator came to light, he was declared “of unsound mind”. However, the IHD found that the attack was “planned and racially motivated”.
