PCF: France must act decisively against the barbarity in Turkish prisons
The French Communist Party (PCF) released a statement calling upon France to act decisively against the barbarity in Turkish prisons.
The statement said, “A new human drama is taking place in Turkish prisons. Former Diyarbakir MP Aysel Tuğluk is dying despite alarming medical reports. Arrested in December 2016, she is languishing at the bottom of her cell in abominable conditions. Her conditions of detention have caused irreversible after-effects as she now suffers from dementia, is unable to support herself and struggles to express herself. Despite her condition, the brutal regime of R.T. Erdogan’s brutal regime keeps her locked up.”
The party pointed out that, “This situation is shared by the 1,600 Kurdish political prisoners who are deprived of health care, suffer torture and isolation, all of which is aggravated by the Covid pandemic. Prisoners regularly die behind bars, others commit suicide and those released often die within days of their release.”
PCF stressed that Turkey violates all international conventions and tramples on human rights, and that this ferocity and cruelty have gone on for far too long.
The French Communist Party (PCF) expressed its full solidarity with the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), which has been hit hard by this barbarity. The party called for the immediate release of MP Aysel Tuğluk and all political prisoners, adding, “It is high time to sanction the savagery of the Islamic conservatives of the AKP in power in Turkey. France must act resolutely in this direction.”
