KOMAW calls for the PKK ban to be lifted

KOMAW released a written statement to address the PKK ban, saying the following;

“The PKK was first banned in Germany on November 26, 1993. It was later banned in the USA in 1997, in the EU and Canada in 2002.

As is known, the PKK ban was introduced in 1993 as a result of the agreements between former Turkish prime minister, Tansu Çiller and German Chancellor, Helmut Kohl. In other words, the rights of the people of Kurdistan have been disregarded by the imposition of the Turkish Republic in the interest of both states.

However, it later came out that the PKK ban brought no benefit to any of those countries. The Turkish government may have considered itself successful and a relative superiority may have been achieved. It was nevertheless to the detriment of all peoples in Turkey. In the long term, the Turkish state has gained nothing from the agreement. After all, who benefited from all these decades-long crises and failures in every field in Turkey? Except for a bunch of renters and profiteers, no one has ever made profit out of it, and nobody is safe in contemporary Turkey!

‘ALL THE COUNTRIES THAT ADOPTED PKK BAN CAME TO HARM’

The countries that introduced the PKK ban may not have been damaged as much as the Turkish state. However, we certainly know that they have suffered the consequences of the PKK ban to some extent. After all, they have supported the crimes against humanity committed by Turkey and gained hatred of the oppressed Kurdish people that has a population of more than 60 million.  In short, they have become a party to the crimes against humanity for a small amount of financial gain!

It is true that the people of Kurdistan have suffered the most, but we would like to note that all parties involved, especially governments, have also suffered from this hideous policy. However, the people of Kurdistan are no longer what they used to be in past. They no longer accept the servile life and colonial domination of the Turkish state since they have become familiar with the free modern thinking and are able to think scientifically to a certain extent.”

‘TURKEY COMMITS CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY BASED ON THE PKK BAN’

The KOMAW statement pointed to the evaluations of academics and politicians who defend that the PKK ban does not benefit anyone, and a court decision in Belgium which ruled that ‘the PKK is not a terrorist organization’.

“We demand that the PKK ban be lifted, and the group be removed from the terror list,” said KOMAW and continued,

“We appeal to all governments and all relevant international institutions and organizations that advocate the PKK ban: Do not support the Turkish crimes against humanity against our peoples based on the PKK ban and take a stand against it!

Furthermore, we would like to remind the following: the countries that have adopted the PKK ban carried out a successful joint struggle with the PKK and PYD against the atrocities committed by ISIS terror organization especially in Syria and Iraq, and these countries still continue this beneficial joint struggle. This common struggle which is waged by the international coalition consisting of more than 40 states, most of which are NATO members, should of course be considered righteous and endorsed.”
