Poyraz’s mother says her daughter’s case concerns all Kurdish people

Hundreds of people came to the İzmir Courthouse to monitor the first hearing of the case concerning the armed attack on the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) İzmir headquarter and the murder of party employee Deniz Poyraz. The hearing will be held in the conference hall of the courthouse. The hearing was scheduled to be held at 10:00 (Turkey time) yet did not start since the courtroom was not ready yet.

HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE FOLLOW THE CASE

Deniz Poyraz’s mother, Fehime Poyraz, is waiting in front of the conference hall accompanied by hundreds of people including lawmakers and representatives of civil society, trade unions and women’s organizations. Touched by the public interest in the first hearing, Fehime Poyraz seemed to take a firm stand on the case.

‘THEY DID NOT LEAVE ME ALONE’

Sharing her feelings before the hearing, Poyraz thanked those who supported her and added that no one left her alone. The mother said she was excited after seeing numerous supporters.

“This case is not only my personal cause, but the cause of all Kurdish people and those who support them. I am grateful that they have never left us alone. We know that murderer Onur Gencer is not alone. There are people who support him, and they are more influential than the murderer. Not only the murderer, but also those who helped him should be punished,” she said.

‘I AM ENCOURAGED BY PEACE MOTHERS’

Poyraz noted that she was encouraged by the Peace Mothers who came from various cities to monitor the hearing. Poyraz reiterated her call that no one should die, and that peace should prevail in the country.
