Emine Şenyaşar faces another trial

Emine Şenyaşar, who lost her husband and two sons in the massacre carried out by AKP Urfa MP Ibrahim Halil Yıldız’s bodyguard and relatives on 14 June 2018 in Suruç, continues the Vigil for Action in front of Urfa Courthouse with her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who was injured in the attack.

As the vigil, which started on 9 March, entered its 294th day, a lawsuit was filed against Emine Şenyaşar at the Ankara West 6th Criminal Court of First Instance.

AKP Urfa MP Ibrahim Halil Yıldız was the complainant in the indictment of the lawsuit filed with the allegation of “insulting a public official”.

In a speech made by Emine Şenyaşar in front of the courthouse on 16 September, she said: “This Halil (AKP Urfa Deputy Ibrahim Halil Yıldız) is an usury, a thief. Let them go after these thieves, let’s see how many people he killed.” These words were considered a crime by the Turkish judiciary.

In the indictment, it was claimed that Şenyaşar’s words were “humiliating and insulting”.

In the same indictment, Şenyaşar’s words were deemed as “insulting a public official”, citing that İbrahim Halil Yıldız is also a deputy.

Ankara West 6th Criminal Court of First Instance accepted the indictment prepared by Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and decided that Şenyaşar would be tried in a simple procedure.

Cases were brought against Anne Şenyaşar at the Urfa Criminal Court of First Instance on the allegation that she insulted İbrahim Yıldız and Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu, and the cases were merged.
