HDP congratulates Gabriel Boric on presidential victory in Chile

In a written statement on Wednesday, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar congratulated Gabriel Boric on his presidential election victory, saying; “We welcome the victory of Gabriel Boric, one of the former leaders of the Chilean student movement, as the joint candidate of the left bloc in the second round of the Chilean presidential elections held on Sunday.”

Former student leader Gabriel Boric, who became a member of parliament at the age of 27, has been elected the country’s new president at the age of 35, leading to a left-wing revival in the Chilean politics. “Hope won out over fear,” Boric said on Twitter on Sunday.

“We consider this election victory as a result of the struggle of the Chilean people for democracy, fair sharing and freedoms, and we believe that his victory will significantly contribute to the anti-fascist democracy struggle in South America. The decline of the right-wing nationalist line which ruled Chile for decades ignoring the demands and expectations of the people will increase hopes throughout the world, including Turkey,” Buldan and Sancar said.

“We congratulate the Chilean people, especially women and youth, and wish success to Gabriel Boric, the candidate of the Chilean left alliance,” the co-chairs added.
