Women prisoners in Diyarbakır denounce torture

The Turkish state’s policies of oppression and torture in prisons in Kurdistan and Turkey continue. While the pressure on political prisoners remained on the agenda, it was learned that pressure and torture are also applied to judicial prisoners.

Esma Dağlı, one of the women prisoners in Diyarbakır Women’s Closed Prison, attempted to commit suicide by taking drugs due to the pressures she was subjected to. It was reported that Dağlı, who stayed with her child in the cell, could not stand the torture and tried to commit suicide. When the guards on the shift noticed that she had taken pills, they beat her and forced her to vomit.

It was learned that another female prisoner, named Melike Cangi, suffered from psychological problems and was constantly kept naked in a single cell by the prison administration.
