Rojava Committee in Basel protests Turkey’s use of chemical weapon in Kurdistan
The activists of the Rojava Committee in Basel, including members of Swiss and Kurdish youth organisations, carried out a protest action and unfurled a huge banner on the roof of the central railway station in Basel to draw attention to the Turkish state’s chemical attacks against Medya Defense Zones, which have been ongoing for months.
Earlier in the night, the activists released a statement about the action. The statement titled ‘Stop poisonous gas attacks in Kurdistan’ said that Switzerland, just like other European Union countries, remains silent despite Turkey’s documented use of chemical weapons in Kurdistan. The group pointed out the vicious policies against refugees and agreements on arms trading between Switzerland and Turkey as the main reasons of this silence.
Calling for urgent action to stop the dirty agreements, the statement said, “It is up to us to increase the pressure through actions on the streets and to support the Kurdish Liberation Movement against Erdogan’s dictatorship. We demand an end to poisonous gas attacks. It is time for solidarity with Kurdistan.”
