KNK: “Let’s defend and rebuild Shengal together”

The Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) Executive Council issued a written statement on the occasion of the Êzi feast.

The statement said: “The Êzi feast has an ancient history. When we look at the history and content of the Yazidi feasts, a new life and sanctity can be seen. We see the Êzi Feast as a tradition of protecting the faith and culture of our country.”

‘Rebuilding Shengal is the responsibility of all Kurds’

In its statement, the KNK said that Shengal is in Kurdistan and that the majority of the people living there are Yazidi Kurds, and added: “The situation in Shengal needs to be handled in a specific and sensitive way. The protection and rebuilding of Shengal is the responsibility of all Kurdish forces. The displaced people of Shengal must return to their own lands. Now is the day to return to their land. The identity of the Yazidis in Shengal must be protected. Our Yazidi people should govern themselves.”

The KNK called on all the people of Kurdistan, the Yazidi community and their friends to unite in the protection and rebuilding of Shengal and said: “With these hopes, we celebrate the Ezî feast of the Yazidis and all humanity once again.”
