New group takes over the vigil for Öcalan’s freedom in Strasbourg

The vigil launched on December 1 in Strasbourg, France by the Freedom for Öcalan Initiative as part of the ‘Time for Freedom’ campaign is continuing on its 15th day.

A group of 50 activists from Marseille in Southern France arrived at the scene of the vigil on Wednesday morning to take over the protest carried out under the motto “Freedom Shall Prevail; Take Action for Abdullah Öcalan”.

The activists of the new group took over the action with a press release. Cevat Güneş and Esma Arya from the CDK-F Southern French Federation made speeches on behalf of the group.

Cevat Güneş criticized the fact that the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) still remains silent despite the reactions and added that protests should be made widespread.

Güneş remarked that the relevant European institutions should send a delegation to the prison on Imrali island where Öcalan is held as soon as possible. He vowed that they would continue their actions.

The schedule for the next two days for the “Freedom Shall Prevail; Take Action for Abdullah Öcalan” action is as follows:

*On Thursday, December 16, a group of internationalist activists and those involved in diplomatic activities will take over the action.

* On Friday, December 17, Kurds living in the German cities of Düsseldorf and Cologne are expected to take over the protest vigil.
