Gezer’s preliminary autopsy report says cause of death could not be determined
Garibe Gezer was in Kandıra No. 1 F Type Closed Prison and was systematically tortured. She was found dead in suspicious circumstances in her cell. The prison administration called her family to inform them, saying that she allegedly committed suicide at noon.
Thereupon, the lawyers of the Legal Aid Office Against Sexual Harassment and Rape and the Lawyers’ Association for Freedom (ÖHD), went to the prison.
The autopsy of the body of Gezer, who was taken to Kocaeli Forensic Medicine Institute, was carried out without waiting for the lawyers.
Cause of death could not be determined
According to the information given by the lawyers, information about the cause of death was not included in the preliminary autopsy report of Gezer.
The report stated that the cause of death could not be determined.
Human Rights Association (IHD) Co-chair Eren Keskin, who protested because Gezer’s autopsy was carried out without waiting for the lawyers, said: “On behalf of the IHD and the ÖHD, lawyers Jiyan Tosun, Veysi Eski, Jiyan Kaya, Elif Taşdöğen and Beritan Kalbişen Garibe were on their way to attend the autopsy and take the images from the prison. However, when they arrived, the autopsy process was completed. Without waiting for lawyers. Such a thing could not have happened even in the 90s.”
On the other hand, the lawyers wanted to meet with other prisoners, but the prison administration did not allow the visit.
Gezer’s remains will be sent to Mardin today.
