Several Turkish soldiers killed in Revolutionary Operation in Zap
The Press Centre of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) released a statement announcing the results of a Revolutionary Operation carried out in the Zap region as part of the Bazên Zagrosê Revolutionary Campaign in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).
The HPG statement includes the following:
“Between December 8 and 9, guerrilla forces carried out a coordinated Revolutionary Operation during which the guerrilla warfare of the new era was exercised against the Turkish troops in the Girê Şehîd Munzur in the Zap region. The details of the Revolutionary Operation carried out as part of the Bazên Zagrosê Revolutionary Campaign are as follows:
On December 8, at 14:00, the Turkish military positions on Hill Girê Şehîd Munzur were hit effectively with heavy weapons. Following the action, our mobile guerrilla units took control of the Turkish positions from 5 directions. Our first and second professional attack teams carried out a simultaneous raid action targeting 2 military positions and 1 dugout of the Turkish army at 01:00 at night. The first unit with hand grenades and individual weapons hit the dugout with soldiers in it, killing 5 soldiers and seizing 2 M-16 guns, 1 grenade launcher, 1 BKC machine gun, 1 bag and several other military equipment from the slain soldiers. The second unit hit 2 other military positions of the Turkish army with hand grenades and individual weapons. Our forces destroyed the positions and approached the dead bodies of 3 Turkish soldiers. The third unit commenced intense fire against the Turkish troops on Hill Şehîd Munzur and hit them effectively. The fourth and fifth units destroyed the determined positions in the Kela Bedewê with heavy weapons.
Our forces dealt a sudden and huge blow to the Turkish invasion operations forces as part of the Bazên Zagrosê Revolutionary Campaign. Our mobile teams successfully captured all the positions on the hill within 10 minutes, employing a strike style inspired by Kurdish leader Öcalan. As a result of this successful action carried out by our forces without any casualties, several Turkish soldiers were killed, 2 M-16 guns, 1 grenade launcher, 1 BKC machine gun, 1 bag and a large quantity of military equipment were seized from 8 Turkish soldiers who were killed during the action.
This revolutionary operation was carried out to avenge all our martyrs in the person of our comrades who were killed during the Turkish chemical attacks.
On December 7, at 11:00, the Deriyê Hirçê area in the Garê region was bombed by Turkish fighter jets.
On December 7 and 9, the Turkish army bombed the Girê Cûdî, Girê Şehîd Rûbar, Kûnîşka, Sîda and Şamke areas in the Zap region with fighter jets and howitzers fired from the military guard posts on the border line.”
