Families of Öcalan and other prisoners in Imrali hold series of meetings in Ankara

The families of Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan and prisoners, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş, who are being held in isolation in İmralı High Security F-Type Prison, will hold a series of meetings in Ankara.

The families will visit the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Parliamentary Group to expose the ban on visits with relatives imposed on the prisoners in Imrali. They will hold a press conference together with HDP Deputy Ömer Öcalan in the Parliament.

Visit to ÖHD and İHD

After the assembly, the families will visit the Human Rights Association (İHD) in the afternoon. They will also convey the unlawful practices carried out in Imrali and their demands to IHD officials. Families will then visit the Lawyers Association for Freedom (ÖHD).

Two separate bans

Asrın Law Office’s lawyers applied to the Parliament, Ministry of Justice, prison administration last week on behalf of their clients, as they haven’t been allowed to visit them and no news has been disclosed about their condition. The application made by the lawyers to the Bursa Execution Judge on 22 November, with the request for an “urgent visit”, was rejected on the grounds of a 6-month lawyer and 3-month family visit ban. In its decision, the judgeship did not give any reason for the ban.
