A letter was sent to the German political parties CDU, SPD, Die Graunen, Die Linke and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by KOMAW in Belgium, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and many other countries. It was also sent to parties, institutions and ministries in these countries.

Drawing attention to the brutality of the Turkish state, the letter said: “In the last month, at least 11 freedom fighters lost their lives in the attacks against the areas of Girê Sor and Werxelê, carried out by Turkey using different types of poison gas and chemical weapons. The information given by the 3 young people who survived with minor damage, has been shared with public opinion.”

The letter added that at least 138 chemical bombings were carried out in the last 5 months and many fighters and civilians lost their lives and were injured.

“As a result of the chemical attack on the village of Hiror in Duhok on 4 September 2021, Abdullah Hesen and his entire family were hit and poisoned. The Iraqi Branch of the Christian Peace Group, which gave this information to the press, also added that the Turkish State does not only attack HPG guerrillas, but targets society as a whole without discrimination.”

The letter continued: “An example was the bombardment of Kanîmasi and its surroundings. 548 village residents were poisoned by chemical weapons and poisonous and suffocating gases. However, the authorities in Bakur later said that the villagers were infected with the Covid-19! Thus, they tried to hide and cover up this crime of the Turkish state.

According to the report given by the İHD, chemical weapons were used 46 times between 1994 and 2011 and as a result, 437 HPG fighters lost their lives.”

The letter also underlined that Turkey has “used many chemical weapons and poisonous gas in Rojava. It was used extensively, especially during the occupation of Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî.”

The letter invited “all relevant states, institutions and organizations, especially the UN, EU and organizations and institutions such as OPCW, which have direct power and duty in this matter, to stop being silent and to exercise their duties in a way that corresponds to their name. Otherwise, they will not be able to get rid of being partners in crimes against humanity committed by the Turkish Republic.”

KOMAW also addressed the Kurdish people and their friends, saying that “in this difficult and dangerous period, more than ever, we need to hold on to our duties and use whatever means possible to stop these brutal attacks carried out by the Turkish state.”
