Families of PKK martyrs call for light to be shed on murder of Şukri Serhed

Şükrü Serhed (Yasin Bulut), a member of the PKK Solidarity Committee with Families of Martyrs, was assassinated in Sulaymaniyah city in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) on 17 September 2021. The assassination is suspected to have been perpetrated by the Turkish Intelligence Service (MIT).

The Asayish (Public Security Forces) announced that they possessed some documents containing information on murderers, vowing to make these documents public within the shortest time. The documents have not been unclosed yet.

The Committee of PKK Martyrs’ Families on Friday organized their weekly demonstration in the Çarçira neighbourhood where the assassination took place. The activists demand that perpetrators be found and prosecuted.

The committee reiterated that they would gather at the same scene every week until the murderers are found and exposed.

“Martyr Şukri Serhed devoted his entire life to the freedom of Kurdistan. Although 57 days have passed since his murder, the killers have not been captured and no official statement made. This attack shows that the life safety of everyone who strives for the freedom of Kurdistan is in jeopardy,” the statement by the committee said.

“We are asking all security institutions; where are the murderers of martyr Şükrü? Why are the relevant documents not shared with the public?” the statement added.
