Başak Demirtaş sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison

A lawsuit was filed on March 3, 2018 against the wife of HDP former Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş for allegedly submitting a fake medical report to state institutions. The final hearing of the case, in which Başak Demirtaş and Dr. R.B. stood trial, was held on Wednesday at the Diyarbakır 6th High Criminal Court.

The court sentenced Başak Demirtaş and medical doctor R.B., who prepared the report, to 2 years and 6 months in prison.

In a written statement, Başak Demirtaş’s lawyers revealed that their client, who had severe health problems during the period in question, was examined and received treatments on November 4, 12, 16, 23, 25, 28, 30 in 2015 and December 7 and 9 in the same year due to a miscarriage and related health problems. They added that Başak Demirtaş had operations at two separate dates during the mentioned period of time.
